It’s that time of year!

Since 2007, each year we receive hundreds of submissions for the year’s best business books in various categories. Throughout fall, we spend a lot of time reading, talking, and thinking about what makes a book “best.” The books we select might not always be what’s expected, and we think that’s ok.

All year long, we feature our Bestseller list along with Inc.com, which identifies the top-selling books we handle. The Book Awards are our chance to pick big-sellers, non-sellers, quirky titles, obvious titles, or any combination thereof. These are the books that struck us as readers this year. We hope you enjoyed them, too. And if not yet, will soon.

As our multi-year lists are growing beyond simple blog posts, we’ve now created a page on our site to archive the lists from year to year.

For 2010, you’ll see all the category shortlist and overall winners, but to find out what the Overall Best Business Book was that we selected this year, you’ll have to wait until we announce it at our Business Book Awards event held in NYC on January 19, 2011.

Gone are the days when your child would be absolutely thrilled at the mere sight of the colors and the book along with it. The reason for this is that they have found a new and fascinating source of coloring, which revolves around the use of computer and its different software specially designed for children. With the World Wide Web redefining the approaches to coloring and drawing with the help of high-quality information websites; the adults too are relying on these new tools and formats to allow a child to learn art and boost creative thinking.

Most of the kids in the recent era cannot only draw and color but also, are able to animate their drawing with the help of the computer tools. Understanding the potential of this phenomena the online tools developers have crafted software and pages to help the children, parents and teachers in the educational activities. Various websites on the virtual world have been developed which include; picture of various styles that allow a child in creating their own coloring pages, making use of the characters and other features.
The websites for the kids even allow the parents and the teachers to print out the extolling wonders of art, to be scrutinized later. Other than these basic coloring websites, one can also try to search for the coloring pages on the virtual world for their kids, which are usually a part of the complex websites, with full-fledged community; of which one might be required be become a member. The coloring pages, for children are a tool to help the child express his or her ideas, opinions and perception, with the help of pictures and other creative methods.

One of the most famous coloring games among young girls revolves around coloring the favorite characters of their dolls, with the help of the online coloring pages. As soon as the coloring pages are complete, a storyline about their personalities and chain of events shows up. This keeps a child interested as they can take part in various contests and forums to enhance their learning capabilities. Though the task of coloring may appear to be simple yet, this is the first step to getting a child disciplined as he or she is required to make sure, to fill in the color within the line, while balancing the color and the texture by making use of their imagination.

There has always been a lucrative market for books for children. Parents will know that the bedtime story is an opportunity for parent and child to bond. For some reason, human beings need stories and children particularly need that parallel world. Fairy stories, as well as being entertaining, also served to teach good moral values in the child. Then, books for children tended to split into stories for boys and stories for girls. This demarcation line is more blurred today. Boys have always tended to read adventure stories involving pirates, explorers, and soldiers. Girls were apt to read about ponies, finishing schools, and training to be a nurse. Occasionally in books for children, there would be a tomboy such as George in the Famous Five books. The past told of an idyllic world where children could safely play all day in the woods or on the river, unsupervised by interfering adults. In today’s books for children, the girls get stuck into dangerous situations as much as the boys. Take Hermione from the Harry Potter books, for instance.

The modern reader may think the classic books for children from yesteryear to be a little quaint, but that’s part of their charm. Reading them is similar to snuggling in front of an old black and white movie. It’s a comfort blanket. The world of Peter Pan and Wind In The Willows is reassuring. The Harry Potter books seem to appeal as much to boys and girls. Boys who had never expressed any interest in reading voluntarily now await the next Potter book impatiently. Some critics say there is no place for religion in the Potter world, and children should not be exposed to the dark arts of magic. Read any of the Potter books for children, and the child will learn about comradeship, loyalty and courage. Not bad values for any of us.

Coloring books are where most kids start to develop their artistic dexterity. They are available relatively cheap, they are often related to cartoon characters or objects familiar to very young children. They provide guidelines for children who are learning to control their hand movements by “coloring inside the lines”.

Just like reading stories in picture/illustrated books with their children, parents often use coloring pages to teach children and stretch their imagination. Standard coloring pages provide outlines within which children can color, but some art educators believe that free-form pages are an even better tool. A good example of these coloring books can be found at CreativeColoringBooks.

“To state that the internet has changed the way that we live is an understatement. The way that we check the latest movies listings, catch up on current events and buy and sell goods has drastically changed over the last decade. We now live in a world where anyone can get their product or message out to the masses with ease. No longer are the voices of the media giants and large corporations the only voices that are heard. In today’s world even the little guy has an equal opportunity to promote and deliver goods and services.

One example of how the internet has changed the scope of the world is the way millions of people now read comic strips. Online comics, also known as webcomics, are a new phenomenon that has embraced the internet over the last decade. Webcomics, as the name implies, are online comics that can be read off of a website versus the traditional medium of a newspaper or magazine. Unlike traditional comics, where very few comic strips are accepted into syndication, anyone with a talent for writing and drawing can put together a webcomic.

Authors of a webcomic strip can range anywhere from a high school students to adults looking at using their creativity to make a successful living for themselves. Whether or not the artist produces a webcomic as a hobby or a source of income the potential profit streams are endless. A popular online comic website has the same opportunities as other popular sites when it comes to creating income for the website publisher. Need proof, a couple of examples of income earners for webcomic sites are that they can sell advertising space or merchandise using their logo and images.

It’s a new world out there and the internet has given the ability for all artists to let their voices be heard. Whether your interest is poetry, writing or creating comics, the internet is an exciting medium that gives you an equal opportunity to show off your talents.”
